@crschmidt It's not only that; your single user instance's local timeline is kind of boring. Hashtags are basically useless, as they seem(?) to be only recognized from federated content (i. e. toots/boots of those I follow).
Right now, running an instance seems to be rather futile actually, unless you *want* to stay within a *very* tight bubble?
@crschmidt Same here; besides, IMHO that's how things are supposed to be in an environment of Interconnected Networks (aka The Internet).
But from what I experience so far, (Mastodon) instances aren't equal, your view into the Fediverse much differs on the size of the local instance. E. g. I barely doubt that my instance's trends reflect what "the Fediverse" is talking about ...
But then, maybe there isn't "the Fediverse" at all as such. Still kinda #neuhier ;)
@wusel I mean, my goal in general is "own my content"; running my own instance is part of owning my own content/space, combined with wanting to be free to experiment freely with e.g. accounts + automation without thinking about gumming up the works on some other person's home.
I'll admit it's a lot of pain for little gain, but being a giant nerd means that I'm still motivated to do so.
