Running a smaller instance, I'm a little sad to be missing some of the community on other servers.

I sort of wish there were a convention that servers each hosted a firehose bot that just...boosted every public post on that server.

This is probably a horrible idea and I'm sure there are reasons it shouldn't be done.

To be clear, I know about relays and that's not what I'm talking about. I don't want a general firehose, but the ability to engage with the local public timelines on other servers in a sane, opt-in way.

@jesse Either subscribe to everyone on these servers – or hop to their local timelines in a browser and copy-and-waste the URLs into your home instance to boost.

Actually, I'd like to feed their local TL (is there an RSS feed?) into my instance to enhance the federated view.

But that would open up the option to build a search engine as well, so maybe that's not a popular solution ...

Indeed.

@jesse @wusel Hmm, I'm surprised there isn't an RSS feed for the federated timeline on a server. There is for users and hashtags - append ".rss" to the URL.
